Below-average temperatures mark cooler October at Portland Jetport

PORTLAND (WGME) --It's hard to believe that we are just about halfway through October, which has been cooler than normal in Portland.

Our Weather Authority team has been tracking the daily temperatures since the start of the month using this calendar.

Thus far, there have been seven days with temperatures cooler than normal, four days warmer than normal and two days near normal temperatures.

The Portland Jetport has received only 1.43 inches of rain since October 1.

Speaking of October 1, the average high is 65 degrees. It was 63 degrees at the Jetport that day, so a cooler start to the month.

The average precipitation at the Jetport is 5.25 inches. The average first freeze in the Portland area is October 15, which could be in store for Mainers along the coastline as cool overnight temperatures are on the horizon.

Mainer could see some big changes over the next 2 weeks.

Firstly, a stubborn and massive high-pressure system will move in over our area by the end of this week and could bring warmer-than-normal temperatures to the region by the end of October.

Precipitation is looking sparse through October 28 all across New England.
