For over 40 years of operation and more than 15 million t of material transported at over 400°C, without ever needing maintenance interventions. The record-breaking technology is from the Italian Magaldi Power, and it's a feeder-extractor installed at the Italcementi cement plant in Samatzai, Sardinia, Italy.
The Samatzai cement plant is one of the most important industrial assets in Sardinia, with an annual cement production of 950 000 t. Installed in 1981, the extractor-feeder is still in operation with the original Euremag® armoured belt, which was later replaced in 1984 by the Magaldi Superbelt®. As noted in an endorsement by Italcementi, "over the years it has not required any particular maintenance activities other than lubricating the bearings in the supports and changing the oil in the gearbox".
The Superbelt conveyor is made up of the assembly of partially overlapping steel pans securely bolted on a patented high tensile steel double-wire mesh system. The driving force is transmitted by friction between the head pulley and the mesh belt, while a pneumatic take-up device on the tail pulley provides constant tension.
The exclusive design enables it to address a wide range of material handling needs across virtually every industry (Metalcasting, Metallurgy, Cement, Metalworking, Power&Heat), ensuring extreme reliability, leading performance, low operating costs, and high environmental standards.
Founded in 1929 in Buccino, in the province of Salerno, the Magaldi Group is now present in over 50 countries and has operational offices in the United States, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, India, and Australia. The company employs 210 people, half of whom are engineers, and generates a total turnover of between 40 and 50 million euros. The company is focused on innovation and has filed 55 international patents.
In 2021, the Group established Magaldi Green Energy, which is dedicated to researching, developing, producing, and commercializing innovative technologies for clean energy generation and storage.
The company's product portfolio reflects its commitment to research and development and includes a wide range of materials, such as castings, metal scraps, ashes, and clinker. Magaldi has developed cutting-edge systems for handling bulk materials and is also focused on the renewable energy sector and energy storage through "sand batteries.
