May 07, 2023Open Farm Sunday 2023: Events in Norfolk and north Suffolk
Open Farm Sunday will bring thousands of visitors onto East Anglian farmland this weekend for a day of summer family fun and learning.
The annual event on June 11 gives the public the chance to see what farmers do and why - explaining how they grow food and care for livestock and the environment.
Farms will open their gates for guided tours, machinery demonstrations, animal experiences and wildlife discussions.
Events in our region include:
This organic arable farm is mostly managed for wildlife. Guided walks will discuss regenerative and organic farming practices, woodland and wildlife, while farmyard activities include owl pellet dissection, green woodworking and machinery displays.
Gressenhall's farm showcases a range of rare-breed cattle, sheep, pigs and horses, as well as traditional farming techniques. Activities include animal and machinery displays, sheep shearing, tractor and trailer rides, and a chance to meet Mabel the Land Girl.
Holkham manages 3,000 hectares combining livestock, arable crops and wildlife conservation. The event offers modern and vintage machine displays, tractor-trailer tours of the park, sheepdog demonstrations, and cattle destined for the Royal Norfolk Show.
This 500-acre mixed farm has a dairy, rare-breed animals, holistic management, and a farm shop, cafe, and vineyard. Its event includes milking demonstrations, farm tours, vintage and modern tractors, goat walking, and rare breed pigs and sheep.
Edfords is a small organic farm raising pedigree livestock and growing fruit and vegetables. It also operates as an alternative teaching provision for young people. Its animals include Jacob sheep, Norfolk Horn sheep and Gloucester Old Spot pigs.
This 1,500-hectare arable farm grows cereals, irrigated vegetables and potatoes. Machinery will be on show, along with practical and hands-on activities for children.
This regenerative farm is based on conservation, 'no-dig' and pasture-based principles. Meet rare-breed livestock in the barn, see the market garden operations and explore the wood and bird hide in the wildflower meadows.
G's is an international farming business growing vegetables, salads, energy crops and flowers. It offers tractor-trailer rides, farm tours, woodland walks, gundog demonstrations, vintage tractors, a farmers' market and outdoor games.
While many events are free, some have entrance or parking fees and some require booking. For full details, times and listings see the Open Farm Sunday website.
