Cooler air is settling in behind a boundary crossing the state this morning. That will lead to high temperatures in the low 60s this afternoon. Tonight, high pressure drifts overhead, calming winds down and allowing us to chill down toward the upper 30s early Saturday morning.

Overall, this coming weekend will be a quiet, pleasant one in Iowa.

Saturday will be sunny, with highs around 60°. Sunday will just be a little breezier and warmer.

The significant warmth returns again next work week.

A large trough arriving in the Western US will bend the upper-level winds over Iowa to the southwest, ushering in temperatures around 80° Monday and Tuesday. Both days will also be quite windy.

This trough will eventually cross the nation's midsection, which will lead to some rain potential around Wednesday, then cooler (normal) weather in the second half of the week.
